    Some nice shoes

I recently purchased some nice shoes from www.medievalmoccasins.com. These are old style leather shoes that actually have a sole in them. I got the shoes to wear at some re-enactment events but like them so much I wear them with my regular kilt. I usually have problems wearing "period" style shoes because there was no sole or might as well be no sole in them. I would get blisters and my feet would swell. I have worn these shoes all day for two days straight and so far I have had no problems. The real test will be this coming weekend when I will be camping for a couple of days at a re-enactment event and will be walking around the entire time doing archery.

Those ARE nice. If I hadn't just bought a pair of ghillie brogues, I'd think about a pair of those. Of course, I like the high, pricey ones.

    Enjoy them!

For authentic-looking footwear for reenactment purposes (from Dark Age up to the `45), check out the "pucker-toe" mocs on this site:

    www.arrowmoc.com

They look just like the "currans" worn by the ancient Highlanders, and have a sole for comfort, too...!

I know the people who makes Medieval Moccassins. Good shoes, if pricey, and very authentic. They are based on a moc found in a German excavation, though I dont know the particular period.

The funny thing is there are currently some very expensive 'sport' sandals on the market with very much the same design. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Interesting site, not sure about the boots though, might be fine for re enactments, but not too practical for everyday wear.

some good links from the site. One such link I likedsorry to get off topic) http://hometown.aol.com/SconeMac/kilt.html

she writes: The kilt is male attire and should NEVER be worn by the ladies, except Highland dancer lassies.

    I agree!

I purchased a lowtop pair from Scarborough Fair here in Texas, they are nice and comfortable. I bought some aftermarket leather string though so I could lace them all the way up the calf, and I like that alot better.
