Sources for McMurdo's buttons?
I recently acquired a nice black barathea Argyll jacket. The supplier to my supplier was Clann Crois in Scotland, but apparently they are no longer in business. The jacket has chrome buttons that are somehow brighter, warmer and nicer than the ones you usually see. Now I want a waistcoat to go with it, but my supplier tells me that she has looked hard, but cannot find the same buttons. So, I guess that I will need to rebutton the jacket to match the vest.
I do not care for the chrome buttons you usually see. To me, they scream cheap!
In another thread, McMurdo showed this button from his Montrose doublet:

This is a seriously nice button. Can anybody find a source for it?

The problem is that it is a vintage Montrose that I won on ebay, I've ordered buttons from ebay, however they are not of the same quality. I'm really not sure where a button like that can be found now. It really is the difference between a chrome button and a silver one though.

I just bought some buttons (they arrived today) from www.highlandxpress.com They are silver, very shiny, and not really expensive. They're not two-toned, like McMurdo's, but they're attractive buttons anyway. The lady there was very friendly and easy to work with.

I've had good luck with The Button Drawer.
Click on "catalog" at the top. The second category down is the Celtic Collection.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

I have a nice amount of old RAF buttons (various ages - I bought a lot of about 50 or so on eBay several years ago and only used a few of them).

Send me a PM if you'd be interested in them.
Cheers,

Ehiker, you had no way of knowing that I am ex-navy. So you understand that I will decline your kind offer.
Others may well be interested.
But now you have me thinking that I am a member of the Royal Military College of Canada ex-cadet club, and I think we have nice buttons. Or we used to. I shall investigate. I prefer square buttons on black Argylls, though.
