Sporran Flapping
I am wondering if anybody finds that the sporran flap on daily wear sporrans is a cumbersome annoyance to deal with having to lift and hold it up with one hand while you retrieve your wallet or whatever else with the other. It seems to me (never having used one for anything other than ornamental and apron weight) that this might be a problem from time to time especially if you need to hold a wallet or phone while you dig deep for some keys or a tube of lip balm. I know there are hunter style sporrans for those who prefer and I wouldn't be surprised if this is why they exist. Someone with a roped carcass in one hand and only one other to fetch from the sporran ... Makes sense.
I see a lot of gents wearing the flapped sporrans so it can't be a trouble to most if at all, but am I over thinking this? Who experiences this perturbation? Anyone?

Um, no, I never seemed to have that problem. I didn't hold the flap up, and I seem to recall that the forearm of the hand I was putting into the sporran held the flap up.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Just when you think you've heard them all ...
No, it isn't a problem. It's as much second nature as taking a wallet out of your back pocket, or out of a jacket pocket. I hold the flap open, and dig with my right hand, and then...presto! I have what I need!

Yep, you're overthinking it.
Sandy and Ted have hit the nail squarely on the head.

Same here. It's not a big deal. Finding what I'm looking for in there, though, can be a chore at times when I have it stuffed full. I probably look silly with both hands in there, digging around.

Does that give a smooth, close shave?

My biggest annoyance with standard style sporrans is simply having to close them... Never had a prob getting things out, but trying to snap a sporran closed is why I won't wear anything but a hunting sporran. I prefer stud closures as well, and having spent the entirety of the day totaing a 7 year old through a 10,000 strong festival wearing one, I am doubly convinced. I can open my sporran, pull out what I need, and close it again, with no effort at all.
