Sporran Hangers
My sporran hangers tend to slide to the belt buckle and let the sporran hang lower then it should. I'm starting to think I should rip out half the chain from each hanger. was I supposed to do that or is there something I'm missing that would stop the hangers from sliding on the belt?

You could try using an old stand-by: the sporran strap! You won't have any problems with one, plus you'll look a whole lot nicer IMHO. Those hangers have way too much hardware, which competes with the sporran for attention and becomes an eyesore.

I know there is a school of thought that runs something like "sporran chains will damage your kilt" and, if that's true, then it would seem to me that all of the hardware on sporran hangers would/could also damage the fabric on the outer apron of one's kilt. That being the case, I'd row in with Sandy and second his suggestion that a leather sporran strap is the best way to go.

I think it was decided, by several members, that the type of chain that was doing the damage to the kilts is the cheaper chains which are not welded at each link. I have a few of these types that came with my cheap sporrans, and they do have a rough, sharp edge at the end of each link where the ends of the wire they are made from is cut.
I decided to replace them with two dog collar, choke chains that are welded with no rough edges on any of the links, and held together with a small, split key chain ring at the back.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

You do need to remove the excess links from the hangers so they hang at the desired level directly above the sporran. Chain hangers will come with extra chain to fit Gents of many different sizes.
You could also scrap the chain altogether and go with a hanger like this

The reason many men go with the Sporran Hangers INSTEAD of a sporran chain or sporran strap is that they're a 'man of considerable subatance'. WHile that MAY NOT be the case here, I simply point out that not all men can wear a sporran chain or strap without it 'underlining the belly'. Sporran hangers negate the need for a strap/chain and therefore leave a much more 'clean' appearance to the man.
Tiny.. remove the links of the chain to get it to hang at the correct spot. The top of the sporran should be about 3 fingers BREADTH from the bottom of the buckle. Alternatively, look into sporran hangers like Cavscout pointed out above or ones like these:

I do not wear these all the time, but particularly when participating in active stuff these sporran hangers are great. I own a pair of these exact ones and they are really good and extremely well made.

currently i do tip the scales a bit higher then some, and as such the standard sporran strap/chain belt tends to emphasize my dunlop syndrom. the kilt does a fine job of concealing my ailment but add the chain and it brings back all that the kilt hides.
I took out 5 links from the hangers and the sporran hangs much better now. still I will be looking to order a nicer set of hangers soon.
