    Super Bulky Hose

I've been interested for some time in a pair of "Super Bulky Hose" as offered by J. Higgins:
    http://www.jhiggins.net/sf_proddetai...EDK4SDPWH1CMQL

    Super Bulky Hose
The thickest sock we've ever made! Made from a 4-ply acrylic yarn to add thickness to the leg. Machine sewn in an intricate cable and diamond pattern which gives the super thick look you've been requesting. They're available in snow white or off-white for day or evening!

but I first have three questions I wish to toss out at to the rabble:

    1) Has anybody had any experience with these hose? What do you think of them?

    2) I'm not real big on white/off-white hose, I like colors!
Has anybody had experience dying acrylic hose? How'd it work out?
(the colors I'd be doing would either be: Bottle Green / Navy Blue / or Black)

    3) I've always been partial to wool or wool-blend hose, but I really like the look of thick /"bulky" hose. Short of knitting my own (& I haven't used knitting needles since grade school) does anybody know of a source of ready to wear "bulky" hose in wool /wool-blend?

    Thanks.

I've had a pair of those from Higgins. It didn't take terribly long to wear out the acrylic yarn.

And the weave on the bottom foot portion was done a bit wide, so I had to wear running socks so they'd be comfortable. Standing in them for a few hours was unpleasant w/o the socks.

I don't believe acrylic will accept many, if any dyes.

I've stuck with wool hosiery ever since.

    Slainte,
    steve

I believe there has been discussion of that in the past (that whole search feature thing again), perhaps by Panache. As I recall the answer was can't be done.

    Best regards,

Thanks Steve, that's the kind of feedback I'm looking for. I appreciate it

Now the question about finding something similar in wool /wool-blend remains

I've been really happy with my Pipers hose. They are 70% wool and 30% nylon. They don't have any cabling but they have a nice textured cuff at the top and the leg is very thick. They are worth a look.

And only because I shop there so often, I know Freedom Kilts sells the above hose. I have two pair, green and grey and I find them to be great.

Terry, to be honest the hose in the pics don't look that bulky. I think the Lewis hose that Matt sells look better.

Unfortunately the Accessories page on Steve's new website isn't up yet, but they are nice.
