Is there such a thing as kilt/pants jacket?

I know this question will seem like blasphemy to some, but I was wondering if there is a type of tweed daywear jacket that could be worn with both kilts and pants. I ask because I am not a daily kilt wearer and I'm more likely to dress casually when I do wear it. I can't justify spending a couple of hundred dollars on a jacket that I won't wear but twice a year. I'd like more bang for my buck. I'm thinking a regular length tweed jacket that's tapered a bit at the waist and slightly modified to clear the sporran would work with pants as well. Any advice?

My advice is to go to a thrift shop or second-hand store and buy two tweed jackets for much less than the price of one new one. Have one of them cut down to wear with the klilt, and wear the other one with your britches.

But, to answer your question, no, i don;t know of a jacket than can pull double duty. A short jacket just doesn't look right with britches, and a long jacket doesn't work with the kilt.

Length is the issue. Visually, a regular-length jacket wouldn't look right with a kilt -- too long -- while one cut for a kilt would look oddly short when wearing pants.

Oh, and please keep in mind that the above is my own aesthetic opinion, and worth every bit of what you're paying me for it.

Good advice. Although I did just that.
Found 2 Harris tweed jackets for around $25.00 each.
I now find I can't bear to cut them up.

My brother gained about 30 lbs and gave me an old grey wool suite of his.
Now I have something to alter for kilt wearing.

If you wore properly cut tartan trews, then some kilt style jackets can be worn.

Yeah, I'm thinking if I ever do alter a jacket I'll start with one I don't care about.

A tailor could do the alteration for you if you describe what you want them to do. For example say you want the bottom of the jacket to finish at the top of your butt and in the front, have a curve from about 2 inches from the top button down to the new hemline of the coat.

Do they make tweed Ike jackets?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

That would be a beautiful jacket. If they don't it might be worth finding a pattern and having one made up.
