I had to take a page out of "The Book" (So your Going To Wear The Kilt). I ran across a black dress coat at J.C.Penny's for $90.00 AND in my size, it fit perfectly and it was normally $179.00 coat. I had been wanting a black Argyle Jacket for those semi formal events but I had not found one under $250.00 that would not take ages to get here. I also don't like the idea of all those measurements because if I screw up...well, enough said! Back to the subject. I got the coat and took it to a tailor in the area that I had some limited experience with. I also found some GREAT pictures on the net and printed them out in a large enough size that some of the details could be seen. I told him to TAKE HIS TIME because it was the only one they had and I wanted it to come out right. I wore one of the kilts I planned to wear with the coat. He took the chaulk and drew up the cut line and showed me exaclty where he would cut and what would be lost (2 lower button holes). I appreciated him taking time on this and WANTED him to be careful. I decided not to go for the cuffs and epaulets or extra buttons. I want a semi-formal look that IF I decide to do a job hunt in a kilt this would make a good impression but not look like something from Monarch. He asked for a week to fit it in and not rush it. I did not mind. A week later I came back and he said that it was not finished because he would take it down, look at the pictures, plan it out and put it back up. I was kind of concerned but gave him another week. I came back a week later and it was finished. It looked good but I still needed the 'finishing touches. I got the buttons at the Highland Games and decided on a simple 'Texas Look' and just have 1 button closure. I should have a picture in a week, church with the Father-In-Law for Fathers Day. I have not decided on the cuff buttons. It actually looks good plain. I'm looking for some feedback from those of you with Arglye jackets. Should I add the cuffs, epaulets and extra buttons? I like the Plain look and the single silver button really makes it stand out with the dress sporron with silver across the top. To me just say's "class". I know that it's hard to say without seeing it but any comments would be helpful. Thanks, RLJ-

How do the pocket flaps sit? Are they close to the bottom edge? I have a plain argyle jacket, but it is a little too fancy sometimes. I would like one without the cuffs.
A head waiters Eton style jacket might be a good one. Change the buttons and it's about the right length and not too fancy. Should be able to get one for $40 or so.

The Argyle jacket flaps are, from what I have seen in the pictures, are only slightly higher. To me it is not bad. The flaps pocket are square cut and not the typical Argyle cut. I'll try to get details in the picture. The only other thing I forgot to add was the coat had the typical single slit up the back and not the dual side slits of the Argyle. I figure I know this and only a few others might spot it but it's not a problem with me. RLJ-
