    Which tweed?

I will be attending a casual wedding ceremony in late November and will be wearing an Isle of Skye kilt. I need a good jacket for day-wear and want a tweed Argyll. Being short on time I will have to order a pre-made article (and soon!). I think lovat blue, lovat green, charcoal or even brown or russet (harder to find the latter two) would all go well with Isle of Skye but I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter. I am more inclined to go with Lovat blue but have seen a few great jacket/waistcoat combo deals for a charcoal Argyll. How versatile will Lovat blue be with other tartans? I will be ordering another kilt in the not-too-distant future and am thinking of weathered Lamont.

Is Lovat blue a good choice given the above facts? I am not a rich man but I need a good, versatile day-wear jacket this winter. Charcoal would probably be a lot more versatile methinks.

Eenie, meenie, miney , mo, which tweed is the way to go? Beats me, but I'm always amazed at how well the various tweeds pair up with a wide variety of tartans. There are several photos on the web with Isle of Skye kilts with a lovat green jacket and they really seem color-coordinated, but it certainly doesn't rule out the others or prove that things need to be so similar in color to look great.

There is a lot of color variation in the available swatch photos of the Weathered Lamont, so I don't know how typical this one is, but here is a sampling of the potential mixes.

Hmmm, going by Todd`s excellent graphic, I think I would choose the brown.

I will often wear brown tweeds with my Isle of Skye.

Excellent pictures! Brown happens to be my favourite colour and it looks capital with both tartans. If I can get brown tweed in time I think I will go that way. Kilts & More has a Highland Green Argyll that looks as if it will fit the bill nicely as well. I'm going to look about for brown tweed.

Steve, do you have any Lewis hose in brown? The website lists Bison but I have seen it elsewhere as more of a tan or greyish colour (could be my monitor).

Greetings my Lamont cousin. I think the safest bet is the charcoal. I can't think of one tartan that it does not go with. Between lovat blue and lovat green I would go with the green. I think it looks far better with the weathered Lamont than the blue. Currently I have a lovat blue jacket that I wear with Lamont Modern, and it look fine, but I did own a lovat green jacket that was absolutely splendid; only probably was that it was an Ebay find and was just a titch too tight so I had to sell it off to a fellow Xmarker.

Best of luck with your choices.

I'm a huge fan of the brown tweed now thanks to this forum. Yes, go for brown!

Oh yes. Steve, where do you get brown hoses? I'm having a difficult time finding it.

I do love brown tweed and will definitely be acquiring a brown Argyll, but I do not think I will have it in time. For now I am going to go with an off-the-rack article in Highland Green. It is a deeper tone than Lovat green and I would like a bespoke Argyll jacket in the latter colour.
