Unusual Kilt Pin
When in Oban, Scotland a few weeks ago, I spent a morning exploring the town as I'd not been there previously. Tucked away in a side street was a small jewellers shop with a window full of really interesting items - but not a kilt pin to be seen! On an impulse, I went inside and asked if they had kilt pins, was told, "Oh, yes" and was directed to a small display under the glass-topped counter. Being a jewellers, they were all silver (none of yer pewter and base metals in there!) and mostly of the traditional sword design, but one just leaped at me and shouted, "Take me home with you!"
It was not quite the most expensive pin there, but close to it, and I did find it incredibly beautiful - so went for it.
Here it is then, in Sterling silver. All I need now is a delicious new kilt to go with it!

I have named this the 'Oban pin'. It is gorgeous isn't it?

Hamish,
Indeed it is a gorgeous piece! Persistence and curiosity obviously pay off. Such a pity that you now have to go out and find a suitable kilt for it...

Great little town too, isn't it Hamish. We spent a night or two there a few years ago and Jill and I had a great time. The lunch at MacTavish's kitchen left a bit to be desired and I missed the distillery altoghter, but it was a nice town with a great seaside view.

Well, no not really! It is already on order but will not be ready for me until mid-September - it is actually another three-piece kilt-suit! This new pin will not suit the tweed of No.80 - it needs something more refined, I feel - so I must get out that 'wants/must haves' list again and see what is on it!

Lovely pin Hamish, never seen anything like it! but does it put the new kitchen back a wee bit?
I like Oban too, but we did drive around for ages looking for a park that we could sit down in and have our lunch - unsuccessfully. It's something we take for granted here.

Well a lovely kilt pin such as that does deserve a special kilt to adorn I am sure you can pick from your wants/must haves list given time.

Hamish,
That is indeed a special piece. I'm delighted that you saved it from the loneliness of a Jeweler's shop and have given it a nice new home.
I'm sure it will be happy on any kilt.
Cheers,
