Wearing the balmoral
I have ordered my first balmoral from glengarry hats and am expecting it this week. My question is what type of shirts are typically worn with the balmoral if you are just wearing jeans?

Umm... "typically" they wouldn't be worn together, so if you choose to do so, you can do as you please.

Why are you planning to wear a Balmoral bonnet with jeans?

Any shirt to suit the time of the year and the work to be done.
Is there a reason not to wear a Balmoral with jeans? I can't think of one. There were many years at home when I wore a Balmoral almost every day. Perhaps not with jeans, but certainly with trousers of other sorts from tweeds to corduroys. Like the Wellies at the other end, it kept my head dry and warm. At the end of the day the wet was squeezed out and the bonnet hung in the hall to dry. Perhaps some see it as a kilt accompaniment; it's not, it's a head-covering.

I remember many years ago wearing a balmoral a few times until I received my kilt. I wanted to show it off a little I suppose.

Quite a few of the Patriot Guards here in the States, that have Scot ancestors, like to wear the Balmoral on their duties. Every now and then I wear my Beret, that I earned, on Veterans memorials and such. I don't know so much about the Balmoral proper tho, so I defer to Father Bill's comment, "do as you please".

At this time of year it is the ideal thing to add to your outfit of any kind - I stack up my bonnets by the door as soon as the first colour appears on the trees and start to wear them in the evenings. It is surprising (to me, even now) how the same garments can be warm enough with the addition of a good head covering but too cold without one.

Thanks! i do see the hat as step above a ball cap and don't see it working too well with just a tshirt and jeans, although I could be wrong. So I figured a polo or button up would look smart with the balmoral. The reason I chose jeans over nicer pant styles is that I am big into weightlifting and have continued to outgrow my pants. Can't afford right now to buy khakis only to not fit in them three months later. That's one of the many reasons I love the kilt, my legs always fit in it.

I'm a hat wearing fool. Since the first Fedora that my granddad let me try on at age three, I've worn everything from WW I aviator helmets to those odd rubber bathing caps used in the Olympics. Any time, for any reason, with any clothes, its head gear for me.
