What colour tie to wear

A first for me: I will be wearing a black Argyle jacket and waistcoat with my Burnett and Struth's ancient MacKay kilt to my niece's wedding next January. I was thinking of wearing a black neck tie but was wondering what other colours would be suitable. Also should the colour of my hose match my tie?

Just grab the tie you would wear with a black jacket, and don't worry about it.

I wish to disagree with TC.
I personally hate ties that have the same colour as the jacket. if you are wearing a while shirt I'd probably go for blue one (not too dark >_>) if you are wearing the ancient mackay I see on google and not the mackay blue ancient.

I also think in this case that if you have a tie in the same blue as on the tartan (I think this is lovat blue?), you should wear lovat blue kilt hose with green flashes. (blue is not as 'POOF LOOK AT ME' as green)

Isn't planning your outfit 7 months ahead a bit too committed though?

For my sake, you can match tie colour with one of the colours of your tartan.

I only wear a black tie with an Argyll to funerals. I'd go with either Lovat Blue or green for both hose & tie myself.

I would say Lovat Blue or Lovat Green for the tie, I personally like to wear a wool tie with my kilt, I would also wear Lovat Blue or Lovat Green hose with contrasting garter ties.

I would just follow one rule here. Do not dress as flashy or flashier then the groom and groomsmen. If you need a black tie to quiet your look down then go for it. Just my humble opinion.

I personally would not wear a black necktie other than to a funeral. Go for a self-coloured tie to tone in with your tartan.

Why 7 months ahead? Because this will be my first opportunity to wear my Argyle and I am REALLY looking forward to it.
