    What is the trick?

So I got a suign-dubh for my birthday. Ive been trying to wear it in my sock like you are supused to. But my sock keeps falling down when I walk, or the knife falls out. So What is the trick to keeping it in place?

Lance!... How've you been! Nice to see you're still kicking the pleats out there in Big Sky country.

I usually wear flashes if I'm wearing a sgian dubh and that helps alot. Don't like flashes?... just get some underwear elastic from the local fabric dept. and sew together a band to wear instead. Helps to hold the socks up too.

    Cheers,
    blu

    Well, Happy Birthday!

Are you wearing flashes with your socks? Or, at least, "garters"? I've never had a problem when wearing flashes. I don't usually carry a sgian dhbh when wearing my UK, so I'm not *sure* if that's the problem, but it sounds likely!

Perhaps sock garters (without the flashes, if preferred) would solve the problem?

    Hope this helps!

    Hal

I think you guys are probably wright. I think my flashes are too loose. Maby I'll make the one for my right leg adjustable, with some velcro to make it tighter.

    Retaining the skean dhu

Having always seen it as a working as opposed to decorative knife, and over the years lost a few, I now cheat for day to day wear.

Cold Steel an American firm do a version configured as a boot knife-a leather strap through the clip-means a knife that wll not get lost, and is easily accessible.

Yet all hidden by the hose and normal garter flash.

For purely decorative occasions, a regular version will stay in place purely with the garter flash.

I know how life gets sometimes. Just not enough hours in a day. Not too much new at this end. Same old stuff... just more of it.

BTW, I meant to ask before about the sgian dubh. Is it particularly heavy or long and what is the sheath material? Post a photo if you've got one.

    Cheers

Blu just asked the $68,000 question. That thing must be heavy to do that.

I wear Piper's Kilt Hose, so I could put a friggin' Claymore in them and it won't move.

If the tighter flashes don't help the case, let's take a look at the sheath (if there is one).
