Are you considering a knitted bonnet?

I day-tripped up to the big 235th anniversary Battle of Oriskany reenactment event yesterday. My friend Dick Bray was set up there selling some of his excellent hand-knitted, 18th C. style "broad" bonnets. Now, I own such bonnets from 3 or four different knitters, and I consider Dick's the best by far. His construction and felting methods are superb. I held one up to the blazing sun, and no light came through the felted knitting! These things are well nigh waterproof.

Here's the best part: I was rather shocked to hear that he still only gets $45.00US plus shipping for these things! (He knits them for fun, and to see his fellow reenactors properly bonneted.)

As of yesterday he had eight or nine bonnets on hand and ready to go, in various shades of indigo blue (some with contrasting red bands like mine below), a black one, and at least one brown (I think). These do not have torries.

If interested, PM me and I'll give you Mr. Bray's email address....

    I'll second the note.
I wore mine at Oriskany as well, with blue check shirt and breeches, (with the rebels.)

These are large and floppy so you may want to get some shrinkage instructions, if you want a smaller beret sized.

I did mine up with an extra large bit of bear fur, and a large round cockade with a brass button to balance out the floppiness (which I like).

    Very good quality bonnet.
