You get what you pay for
So, I ordered my "first" kilt of Ebay about 3 weeks ago. It was in the Honour of Scotland tartan and I combined that with a sporran from the same seller to save on shipping. I ordered my MacLeod hunting standard from SWK about a week after I ordered my Ebay kilt and I received it in 3 days due to the SWK warp speed, space time continuum machine. Needless to say, the SWK was amazing quality for the price. After wearing my Hunting Macleod this Ebay kilt was a complete disappointment. The ebay kilt really isint bad, but I paid more for it than I did for my MacLeod (my family tartan) from SWK. The ebay kilts buckles are cheap, along with the leather. It is a very light PV. It was advertised as a 7-8 yrd kilt in 16 oz material but it is very obviously not.
Now onto the sporran. It looks like a childs toy. Cheap Cheap leather. It was advertised to have 3 tassels and came with none. The sporran strap is a piece of junk as well. Over all, I would not recommend doing business over ebay unles s you are positive about what you are buying.
Some pictures of me rehearsing with my Christian rock group in the cheap sporran and kilt.

bb,
You have learned a hard lesson. In all my kilt related purchases there have been only a few that I have regretted. I constantly recommend our vendors here at XMTS, not because of any incentive or instruction because I am part of the staff, but the simple fact that these people are us! Look at Rocky, Steve, Richard, Jerry, and Kevin. They are here on this forum and post regularly. They wear kilts and they aren’t going to sell you something that they wouldn’t wear themselves. In my mind it is better to support someone you know than try and save a few bucks and go with someone you don’t. I think almost everyone here at XMTS has had a disappointing experience from a vendor that promised much at a very attractive price.
Just remember the old saying:
Fool me once, shame on you!
Fool me twice, shame on me!
Cheers

There are lots of cheap kilts and sporrans on e-bay and I have bought a few myself. Some of them I have since passed on to others and some I continue to wear casually.
As you say you get what you pay for.
I've seen these Honour of Scotland kilts listed on e-bay but as far as I know the pattern is a fashion check rather than an officially recognised or registered tartan. I don't think the tartan is actually registered. (some of our tartan experts can maybe correct me on that).
It looks good on you for your music practice - wear it with pride.

That tartan looks virtually identical to the Pride of Scotland tartan, which is a proprietary design owned by MacColls of Aberdeen. Unfortunately one of the side effects of having a successful and popular design is that other people try to rip it off. In this case, the tartan looks virtually identical and they likely just changed the name to "Honour of Scotland" to make it sound different.
I wonder why they bothered, though, as most people who have ripped off this design don't even bother changing the name! Ebay is full of "Pride of Scotland" kilts that I guarantee are not made by MacColls (or Lochcarron, who have produced this tartan for MacColls).

A few observations, hopefully reasonably well informed:
a. nice belt buckle!
b. although I'm generally leery of combining striped shirts with tartan kilts, I think you do a fine job of it.
c. I certainly don't have the "fabric eye" but I keep thinking that kilt looks more to be acrylic than pv.
d. Jerry really does warp time and space to get SWKs out, doesn't he?

Buzz Kidder makes the best quality leather sporrans in the $50 to $60 price range, the Country sporran and the Rob Roy sporrans are both high quality day sporrans, they are a great value for the money. You can buy them from the gift shop at www.scottishtartans.org.
We have several very reputable vendors that are advertisers and participants in this forum.

It's a good look for you, but really... dump the sporran, and pick up one of Jerry's nylon cargo sporrans! Oh, and a leather sporran strap... you don't want to rub your apron nubbly with a chain!

Speaking of SWK, I saw Jerry last Friday at his place when I went to pick up a belt buckle. Jerry told me the secret of his amazing ability to transport kilts through time and space. He swore me to secrecy never to reveal the whereabouts of his Quantum wave teleportation wormhole generator Jerry said that if his flux capacitor ever gives out, he would have to use regular mail

I'll second the reccomendation for the Buzz Kidder sporrans. I own the Inverness Sporran and the Rob Roy from Buzz Kidder sporans and they're both phenominal for the money. They both carry a huge amount of stuff too, which is good for the person who likes to toss a digital camera in his sporan along with wallet keys cellphone etc.
