    Arrggghhhh!! PBS frustrations.

Sigh. This is one of those good news/bad news posts.

After reading here at Xmarks about this wonderful show called "Monarch of the Glen", I discovered that the PBS station was airing it on Sunday nights. Wonderful show, everything that you guys had raved about and more! My wife and I really got into the show, watching every episode faithfully. The only downside was that we missed the entire first season. On to that in a moment.

This past Sunday (13th) should have been the first episode of the seventh season. I had read the short summary of the show on the BBC website and we were quite looking forward to watching it. Imagine our surprise when the show started with Hector!

Turns out that rather than showing the seventh season, they've started back at the very first episode from the first season. We do hope that they will eventually get around to the seventh (and last, if I'm correct) season.

Good news...we'll finally get to see those first episodes. Nice to have Duncan, Archie, Lexie, etc on the telly again.

Bad news...we might have to wait a long time to get to the final season.

Al, PBS has less rights in airing the new season than BBC Canada does, and they aren't starting the new (series 7) season until February 13th or so. They are however airing the Hogmany special on December 22 on BBC Canada (important episode where the shift in power from laird to laird is done).

If you can, see about adding BBC Canada to your channels. They are showing the previous seasons on Mondays right now.

We started from the beginning again here in Chicago several weeks ago...I doubt that we'll see the seventh season unti the entire series has again run its course.

Interestingly enough, MOTG isn't on the main PBS station here in Chicago, it's on the number two PBS station that was set up to show the programming that went along with the Chicago City Colleges curricula for those taking the on-the-air courses. While the number one PBS station, WTTW, has gone on to become a sort of effete, self-conciously-hip sort of thing, the little station, WYCC, has taken over the real PBS bread and butter stuff like the how-to shows and airing reruns of Rumpole and Miss Marple and Campion and such-like. They also run MOTG and Ballykissangel...and Last of the Summer Wine (which, if they run it near you, I urge you to watch). So which station is programming in the public interest?

Here in the Washington DC area we are getting the new season on BBC-America. If you have that channel try there.
