Veitch is in for the kilt but Fordham is sent crashing

MIKE Veitch played his part at the Lakeside World Championship when he donned a kilt to thrill the audience before duly delivering a 3-1 first round victory over Finland's Ulf Ceder.
Veitch will be hoping that the attire brings him just as much luck as it did the 1997 champion Les Wallace, who was the last player to wear a kilt.
In a good day for Scottish players, Paul Hanvidge also progressed after dismissing the highly-rated Dutchman Co Stompe 3-1.
But Andy Fordham, a former champion, crashed out, going down 3-0 to Australian fourth seed Simon Whitlock.
Apart from a brief revival in the third set, in which he missed doubles to reduce his arrears to 2-1, Fordham was nowhere near his best. Whitlock, on the other hand, remained completely unflustered and hit double four at the second attempt to move into the second round.
Second seed Martin Adams came through a tough tie with Darryl Fitton 3-1.
