Disney Messes With Merida

I'm killed in the war or hung during peace."

Disappointing, but not surprising. Somewhere in the bowels of the Disney business offices, someone(s) decided that if Merida looked just a bit more like Barbie, more tickets would sell.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Disney responded to the criticism in a statement to Yahoo! Shine: "Merida exemplifies what it means to be a Disney Princess through being brave, passionate, and confident and she remains the same strong and determined Merida from the movie whose inner qualities have inspired moms and daughters around the world."
Apparently her "inner qualities" weren't good enough when it comes to Disney's expectations in regard to her "outer qualities."

That's a shame. I love the film character just as she was.

Why is anyone surprised, disappointed , or fill in the blank when a company like Disney does something like this. They are not in the business of being culturally affirming unless it benifits their bottom line. The rights to the character and the story belong to them and they do have the right to manage it as they see fit Simple as that.
Our position in this occuramce is to decide if we choose to be supportive of Disney's decision to "refine" the character by purchasing products and supporting the mega entertainment conglomerate. They are far reaching from the commonly know properties to ABC TV, ESPN, Marvel Comics, and even the Star Wars universe. Am sure I missed something.
An easer decision for those of us who don't have family members, children and adults, who enjoy the multitude of Disney offerings. This offers a good "teachable moment" as they are currently described.

What Doc said. All hail the bottom line in dollars and cents, the sole reason for all existence.
However, I still reserve the right to think that this decision sucks.

Sorry, we just got the word from Corporate and the horse has to go.

I'm not a big fan of animated movies, but I must say I was impressed with the earthy character of the film. Take that away and it's just another Disney clone.

Was the Clydesdale not "slim and sexy" enough? Jeepers, that's depressing. I wonder how much they'll tone down Mor'du. :/
