Geek kilt bashing - haters gonna hate
A warning about the linked content. Aside from the kilt bashing, and failed attempt at humor, he uses words most would find unacceptable in polite company.

I get tired of self appointed cultural police, geek or otherwise. I usually don't bother with opinions such as expressed by this guy, but since he was the OP, and comments were enabled, I decided he wants feedback.
Here was my response:

Hmmm...I tend to pick and choose my battles and it seems something like this really isn't worth anybody's time. However, I do admire your fortitude.
Cheers,

Looks like one of those attention seeking bloggers who seeks to gain increased hits through being controversial. Take comfort that the majority of the comments are pro kilt wearing.

It definitely felt like troll baiting and I'm sure it wasn't worth the electrons. The purported purpose of the site, the geek theme, and post content got under my skin. This site is now on my do not visit list. Sigh.

I guess that guy doesn't get out much. I see more kilts at 'geek' events than most places you'd expect to see them. I'm not a fan of UKs personally, but to each his own...

That drivel in that article sounds to me like an attention seeking troll who is looking to pick a fight with anyone and everyone who does not share their rather limited views of the world. I say, as the old adage goes, "Give them enough rope...."
Those of us who wear kilts as a way to show pride in our cultural heritage/ancestry, will carry on much as we always have; uncaring of the world's (or that author of aforementioned article's) views of us.
I am with creagdhubh...this is not a battle/fight I personally wish to engage. But good on you for taking your own stance and sharing your voice about it kiltedrennie.

I agree with Kyle. Not something to get worked up over.
He did come across as a smug, self-righteous, whiny amadàn, though.
I personally am not a fan of utility-type kilts...BUT I would NEVER tell another man what that author said. That was just rude. I'd like to see him repeat some of those comments to someone like Alan H. We would be peeling him off the sidewalk afterward.
At the end of the article he does (sort of) redeem himself by explaining that his main qualm specifically with Utilikilts is that they dillute Scotland's national dress. I can see his point. Does it? Being completely objective and without the intention of malice, yes that is a valid opinion. Being completely subjective, not necessarily.
Wear what you want. I'm not in your skin. I don't pay your bills. Be your own man and be a good one and the ancestors will be more pleased than any amount of tartan could ever make them.

I don't think this guy is in touch with reality . I wore my kilt all day today & got plenty of compliments . If anyone had something bad to say they didn't say it within earshot of me . I don't think the comments are going in his favor either .

Same here Tasty Rabbit...wore mine most of the morn...and never heard a single word of ill about the kilt or myself. If anything, I got smiles and nods of assent from folks.
But hey, he is entitled his opinion...
