Kilt in "Dalziel & Pascoe"
Rabble;
Via Brit TV & Netflix I have just seen Season 01.Disk 02 of the crime show Dalziel & Pascoe. The ;chief hero' Dalziel shows up at a wedding in a P.C. coat, white shirt, bow tie, hair front sporran, white socks, matching flashes, and a bright red ground with subduded lines, kilt. I have no clew as to which(anyone care to research it and find out for us?) The fellow is near a size 50(US) and he looked good in it! The P.C. coat was standard, excpet for the tail button treatment. It had what looked like 4-5 buttons,in line, on the 'cat tail' at the back, & two more buttons where you would find them on a Saxon Tail Coat. The effect, at a distance, was an inverted "V" shape. The actors name is Warren Clarke- the other fellow is a Buchanan!). It was the opening scene, and lasted several minutes. In all well done.

The police detective series Dalziel and Pascoe has quite a cult following in Britain and, thanks to BBC rebroadcasts, also in South Africa. My wife has watched most of them (I was at work when they were broadcast).
The name has a number of different spellings and pronunciations, but Detective-Inspector Dalziel pronounces it Di-yell (generally accepted as authentic). A radio preacher in this country used to call himself Dal-zeel. I have also come across the spelling Dalyell.
I found this explanation of the name (which comes from Lanarkshire) on the internet:
“The most popular derivation of the name Dalziel is the Gaelic ‘dal-gheail’ meaning ‘white meadow’, referring to the colour of the local soil.”
The Scottish Register of Tartans has three variations on the Dalziel tartan, which is (broadly speaking) red with broad green bands across it, plus narrower blue bands. Narrow white stripes with black guards on one side only complete the sett. Quite handsome.
Regards,
Mike
