Madmen on AMC
Not specifically kilt related, but did anyone else catch the bit about the Campbell and MacDonald feud on Mad Men when Peter Campbell was trying to get his child into a daycare run by a MacDonald?
I found it very amusing and was quite certain that 95% of the viewing audience had no idea what it was about. I was quite chuffed with myself that I understood it when most wouldn't.

I caught that….thought it was funny and quite believable. Some people never love to cling to vendettas….

No, I have not seen the show, so I have only my imagination to use, but... I am all for a bit of harmless fun and yes, I can see the comical possibilities here, but I really wish these things would cease, as they portray -----and perpetuate----- an inaccurate state of affairs between the Clans in Scotland of today. If we in Scotland, whilst not forgetting the assorted Clan horrors, can get on amicably these days, then the rest of the World really ought to drop this sort of nonsense.

I am a huge advocate of artistic license but there are times when "I meant it to be a harmless prank, or even cute satire" is mean or hateful from people with no regard to other's feelings. That is their point though. It is about them and the story they tell (they don't care what you think). Unless it effects the ratings. Diversity does bring forth dialogue (as is the case here).

Jock, I can assure you that it WAS, indeed, comical and that the majority of the people watching it here in these United States probably didn't understand the reference!

Knowing what to expect, Andrea and I watched the episode last night, but we didn't anticipate just how absolutely funny the scene was. It was hilarious (and, meant to be)!

While I make it a point to get along amicably with many descendants of Clan Campbell, I can say that this is often the elephant in the room. More than any other clan rivalry, it seems that all Campbells and all MacDonalds know about this one. I seldom bring it up but it often comes up. I was at a meeting about rail safety just a week ago and sat next to a Campbell. Anyone want to guess what the pre-meeting conversation went to?
My dad told me as a lad that this would come up many times over my life and I should know what all the fuss was about. He was right.

My wife and I watched this episode last night. It was unexpected and hilarious. I think maybe "caricature" is the right word to use to describe that scene. It was made all the more funny in its reflection of the attitudes to divorced women a that time. The world sure has changed since that period of our recent history.
