    Monarch Redux

I mentioned that I've been watching Monarch of the Glen again, this time via the miracle of streaming TV over Netflix.

The first time through, I was pretty kilt ignorant and I always admit that it was Duncan of MOTG that got me thinking "I should get me one of them there kilts" and that, thankfully, led me to this forum and the collective wisdom of the (at that time) hundreds of kilties that posted here.

First off, I learned that I didn't have to invest several hundred yankee dollars to see if I was going to like the kilt and if I could carry it off. Then I hung around and got to enjoy the repartee.

So last night we watched the season two finale in which Hector hands the Chieftanship of Clan MacDonald over to Archie. Hector is wearing a Balmoral with three eagle feathers in it and Archie is wearing, I think, two in his hat.

So my wife....who can't abide a know-it-all (especially if it's me)...leans over and sez, "Why has Hector got three feathers in his hat?"

Boy...thanks to several loooooong drawn out threads that I remember from a couple of years ago, she got the full wisdom of the Xmarks collective dumped in her lap and now knows more about eagle feathers and balmorals than she ever needed or wanted to know.

So once again, I am an insufferable, long-winded know-it-all (possibly on a par with Cliff Clavin from the TV series Cheers) and my wife will never ask a kilt or Scotland related question again.

And I owe it all to Xmarksthescot!

Since you have Chicagoland covered as the resident know-it-all, I guess I'm safe to cover my area.

But, as I've said before, who cares what Duncan and the rest of them do when Katrina is right down the road?

I dunno...you're tempting me to ask for a Monarch of the Glen Hottitude Index for all of the women on the show...personally, Katrina doesn't do a whole lot for me...Jess, on the other hand...well, what's Scots for schwing?

It's terribly sexist, of course, but maybe I should start framing a poll on this if we still have the poll feature available.

If we polled the ladies on the forum, I'd guess that Golly would win hands down.

I liked both Jess and Katrina, but my favorite was a crofter name Iona (see below). I think it's the green boots. I need a pair of those to match my Warrior kilt, when I get it.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

First. I think I am your OK City conterpart--as far as the long winded, know-it-all, blowhard goes. Well, at least I'm sure MY wife would say that. My wife would have walked away mid-story...she always says I take too long to tell a story. Go figure...

Second. I am adding this show to my NETFLIX que RIGHT NOW!

Spartan Tartan: I hope you enjoy it as much as my wife and I are - our 3rd time. :-)

A fine picture of a very handsome lady and some fine scenery for sure(I am biased), but avoid those green wellies! That brand are the coldest, thinnest and expensive things for what they are, that anyone could ever buy. There are far far better options on the green welly front that are much warmer and are better quality. More expensive, I grant you, but as they will do the job so much better for at least five times longer and cheaper by far in the long run. Think Aigle, Toggi, Chameau, or the latest and must be seen in, super dooper leather boot( welly style and not green) the Dubarry.
