More info on Scotty's kilt
I'm watching the Original Series episode "The Savage Curtain" right now on DVD. The episode includes text commentary, and one of these involves Scotty's kilt, part of his dress uniform. According to the commentary, the tartan is from Doohan's family in Scotland, but no other information. They talk a little more about the kilt, and also haggis when Scotty mentions it.

We talked in length about this early on back in Dec. or Jan. I am admittedly a trekkie as well. I have an article in a Star Trek magazine on James Doohan and his Trek career. Originally it was stated that it was one of the Scott tartans and that they had gotten permission for Doohan to wear it. Aberdeen, in Scotland is planning alot of touristy stuff around Mongomery Scott. You might be able to find out more on line. If I can ever find that dratted mag, I'll scan and post it.

It's important to remember that while Montgomery Scott will be born in Scotland in the year 2222, James Doohan was born in 1920, a Canadian of Irish desent, and as nice a gentleman as I've had the honor to meet.

You forgot to mention that he was also a veteran of the Second World War with the Canadian forces, and was wounded during the Normandy landings.

Close! I'm not sure what he is wearing either, but the Cairn you have shown is amazingly close. The black fields aren't quite right.
