My photo made it into a local paper

I piped for the annual Indiana State Police memorial service at the nearby post - District 45, Sellersburg - this past Wednesday, May 1. My photo (and the related story) can be found in one of the local papers - the New Albany Herald Tribune.

SCOTT John C Piping with the ISP Color Guard 2013.jpg

I was wearing my Balmoral with red toorie, black Argyle jacket, white shirt with skinny black tie, Louisville Pipe Band kilt (Ancient Henderson), black kilt belt, my personal sporran (full mask badger from Craggie), and though you can't see them in the pic, I had on bottle green kilt hose with matching flashes, and my black ghillie brogues (polished up well enough to see your reflection in). It's difficult to see in the pic, but I also had a black band on my Clan Scott cap badge, just as police officers wear on their badges. (In fact, it's exactly what they wear - I got it from the head of the honor guard, who can be seen behind the flag bearers).

Following the memorial service (for State Troopers who have fallen in the line of duty), there was a special dedication of a van in my brother’s memory. He was an Indiana State Trooper at this post. For those that don’t know, he died (off duty) of a heart attack last August at 39. (And the reason I was wearing a band on my cap badge).

Here's the side of the van, with the dedication:
    SCOTT David A CART Memoriam.jpg

The van is for a special joint law enforcement team: the Combined Accident Reconstruction Team (CART). It’s a joint venture between the New Albany (IN) Police Department, the Floyd County (IN) Sheriff's Department, and the Indiana State Police (in the order of the emblems seen below 'CART'). It was my brother’s concept, and he essentially wrote the procedure manual for the team. It was the first unit of its kind in the state of Indiana, and we were told at the dedication that there are several more now in the works.

Good on ya John . What a fitting tribute . I am familiar with the Sellersburg ISP Post . I was aware of the passing , but wasn't aware of your loss . My sympathies to you and your family as well as all of those for whom you piped . Your brother's efforts with CART will be his legacy with the ISP and others .

    Respectfully , Mike
