Scottish Garden Party
Scotland - check!
Castle - check!
Kilts - check, check, check and check!
Balmoral Castle provides the backdrop for a Garden Party in the grounds of The Queen's private residence in Scotland, 7 August 2012. The afternoon party was attended by three thousand people from the local community and was the final official Diamond Jubilee event of 2012.

Thanks, Dale. Did you see the candid shot of Prince Philip, comparing sporrans with someone? It is quite obvious that his is empty!

What could he possibly need to carry? Keys to the Castle and his Honda in the car park? A wallet for those quick jaunts to the grocery? Maybe his ID?

My on-line friend Jim Miller of Kilwinning, Ayreshire, was invited to attend last year. He is the docent at Kilwinning's ruined Abbey & he obtained funding to conduct an archelogical dig of the grounds of the Abbey. He is known in Ayreshire as the gent who has constructed >70 models of Ayreshire churches (& other significant buildings there) from square kitchen matches. That's how I met him: visited the Kilwinning library to see the silver trophy (bow, arrow, & numerous engraved discs) from the annual archery contests. A perfectly executed model of the Abbey tower was on display; a wood & feather papingo (parrot) is stuck out over the top of the crenulated tower as a target.
After golf was invented, townsmen (all were expected to practice archery to be ready to protect their town) didn't want to practice archery at the town butts (straw archery targets), they wanted to play golf. Hence the contest, to provide archery bragging rights.
Kilwinning's also the home of Masonic Mother Lodge #0 (British numbering starts there).
Just ask, & I'll post photos of some of Jim's matchstick structures. You'll say Wow.
