    Scottish Screen Archive

    Greetings,

My good friend and cousin, Bruce Macpherson of London, recently shared a rather interesting website called the, "Scottish Screen Archive," from the National Library of Scotland. The website states the following:

"The Scottish Screen Archive is Scotland's national moving images collection. It preserves over 100 years of Scottish history on film and video.

We can provide thousands of titles for personal, educational or commercial use. To discover what we have, use our access catalogue, where you can:

    ■ Find details of titles available to view, hire or buy
    ■ Watch over 1,600 film clips and full films
    ■ Save lists of your favourite films
    ■ Make enquiries online."

A simple query of the word, "kilt" brings up 96 search results (see link below). Enjoy.

    Kind regards,

Kyle. This is absolutely brilliant! I can see it's going to keep me very, very busy. What a great resource.

If I were to count how often this site is shared, I'd surely be in the double figures in the short time I've been on the forum.
Nothing bad about that, it still amuses me.

The most shared film is obviously:

    Making a Sporran in Leather.

    Cheers for sharing

I've never heard of this website until my friend Bruce shared it with me, nor do I recall seeing a thread, or post regarding it. Though, a quick search on the forum does reveal that a link to the website was indeed shared with the rabble back in 2009, 2012, and in early 2013, with the sporran making video being amongst the most widely viewed and discussed.

    Cheers for your input.

I tried to read as much about Sporran making as possible, therefore I read trough the whole back-catalogue. I must have mixed up what I read there with the news update .

And from a professional point of view, Archives and Libraries are a great source for knowledge. So I enjoy every single time one is mentioned as an inspiration .

Whilst perusing the videos, I came across one that contained just a wee snippet of the late Hugh Macpherson (of Hugh Macpherson's Highland Dress in Haymarket, Edinburgh and staunch member of the Clan Macpherson) chatting with the father of the present Chief of the Clan Macpherson, Sir Willam Alan Macpherson of Cluny and Blairgowrie.

For me, this is a wonderful discovery, no matter how brief the clip. I have seen so many photographs of Cluny's late father, Brigadier Alan David Macpherson of Cluny and Blairgowrie, and have read/heard countless stories, but to see actual footage of him chatting with Hugh at a clan gathering in Inverness was such a delight!

Thank you for posting that link to the Scottish Screen Archive, there was a film of Inverness as I remember it from long ago (Highland Capital).
