If he had to wear his Prince Charlie, the least he could have done was to have worn a bow tie with it!!

I am sorry, but it is not really good enough for someone in his position.

    Take care,

(PS: I have also seen photos of Sir S. wearing a lace jabot with his Prince Charlie! They should be worn only with doublets, not jackets!)

Ham, could it have been that he was in evening dress because he was being presented with the award, and thats the most formal dress for the kilt?

I'm afraid I'm not very well versed on Tartan or traditionaly kilt wear.

Or maybe he'd be attending a banquet that evening with no chance to change clothes after the parade and the awards ceremony during the day. What's the protocol for those situations?

Unwashed barbarian that I am, I don't have a clue about such stuff.
