Police have begun a murder inquiry following the death of a 60-year-old man at his home in Prestwick. The death of Arthur Green, whose body was found by a family member on the morning of 20 November, was initially treated as unexplained.
Following a post-mortem examination, police now believe he was the victim of an attack.
Mr Green was last seen alive at around 22:30 on 19 November.
Police and ambulance services attended shortly after Mr Green's body was found at around 08:10 on 20 November.
Det Insp Alan McAlpine of the Major Investigation Team said: "A murder inquiry has been launched into the death of Arthur Green.
"Extensive enquiries are ongoing in relation to this incident and officers are continuing to study CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on whoever is responsible for this attack.
"I would like to remind those living in the community that incidents of this nature are extremely rare. As this is now a major inquiry, additional patrols will be deployed in the area.
"If anyone was close to the Pleasantfield Road area of Prestwick on the evening Wednesday 19, or the morning on Thursday 20 October we would ask that you come forward with any information."
Det Insp McAlpine appealed for any witnesses to contact police and said anonymity could be maintained by contacting Crimestoppers.
