1st House!
My wife and I are now the proud mortgagees of our first house! We signed the papers on Friday, did the carpets that night, and moved in on Saturday. Still tons to do as far as unpacking, cleaning the old apartment we moved out of, attic insulation, etc. but the sellers had done a lot of good work on this place and it's just right for us. God really blessed us this past month. Money came through where there was none before. I was in a car wreck but I'm ok and insurance bought me a new car which negated the need for repairs I was putting off on the old one. Our landlords were happy for us and even bought our old washer and dryer from us. Friends came out of the wood work to help us move, clean, replace electrical outlets, etc. And we got the last house in the nicer Northeast end of Williamsport that was under $150,000. It's scary/exciting/nerve wrecking/wonderful all at once. I will be off work for the rest of the week just trying to get both places cleaned up.
Hooray!
Hugh

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Congratulations Hugh.
It won't be long 'til you know what people mean when they talk about the "joys" of home ownership.

Yahoo! You're absolutely right...all those emotions apply and, for me, haven't faded much in six years. Much maintenance work in store for you, but it's worth it. Congrats!

Re: 1st House!
Congratulations, Hugh and Mrs Hugh!
While owning a house has all sorts of work attached to it, remember that, unlike the rent you were paying, the money you pay on the mortgage will, in the end, be well worth while.
It is said that the best time to buy a house is 20 years ago. The next best time is now.
The same is said of planting trees. Do you have enough on your property?

Mike
