    Acid Etching

    Greetings,

I put this in the wrong place originally, I apologize. I'm making a dirk and wanted to acid etch the blade and some of the brass fittings I've made to give them a little more detail and zing. Has anyone ever done this before? I've used acids to remove galvanizing from wire when I've made chainmail and the like but never etched anything on purpose. I have asked around and looked where I can to find information but I thought maybe one of you could point me to a good reference possibly. If not I'll go at it in my usual method.. experimentation . I appreciate any information you can give me.

The link to the wiki answers covers the steps. I use beeswax and nitric acid/vinegar, myself.

I have spent a few weeks now looking for information and this particular article covers what I was looking for pretty well. http://http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=etching+brass&view=detail&id=AC78F776BC1D D0D0FEB97E01A5FD07F2476F1125&first=37 I'll post some pictures of my results. Thanks for your help
