    annoyed

Mostly just venting, I was ready to order a USAkilts semi-trad American Heritage, and my wife decides to tell me I can't get a new kilt until I have been wearing kilts for a year. (A few months out still...)

So instead of the ~$300 semitrad, I am saving using my 'difficult to use' bank account, which over the next two months I should be able to pull off the full ~$550 8yard wool version instead. Anyone know about how long such takes to get when ordered? I know most of the wait is for the mill to weave it, at least as far as I know that is the case. She will see the folly in making me wait...

I'm not sure about the time schedual for USAKilts, but I ordered mine from ScotWeb and with the ordering of the material, weaving, making of the kilt and FP,etc, etc, etc, ordered early April and expected delivery of kilt w/Fly Plaid
    will be late June.

So you can just figure your wait time around the same I would guess.

Wait times run 6-12 weeks depending on a variety of factors. When you order you will be told the expected time frame based on what they have going on at that time.

I wanted the thing by Fathers day, heck a week early for Flag day (American Heritage, seems fitting) and at least by 4th July. Granted, the wool will last a bit longer I am sure, but I only really wear my Gordon, I think the Royal Stewart attracts a bit too much attention, and the solid black is a bit nicer than day to day wear. (I might wear it tomorrow, my Gordon is still drying, and my SWK thrifty is out of the question, as well as in the washing machine)

What annoys me the most is actually that I have the measurements, and over the last week have talked to Rocky and Kelly, and I think Kelly's mom. Discussed shipping times and stuff, found out they have free shipping somewhere over $200. (I think they said it was at 200, but I don't want to repeat it as fact if I can not remember for sure.)

All I had to do was hit order. (And I think my shipping and payment info is still there from when I had to order some kilt hose)

You've got the right idea. Use the extra time to bank some extra $$ and go for an 8 yd tank when you get the go ahead. You'll only have to wait for the cloth to be woven if your chosen tartan is not in stock so whether you're on the short or long side of that 6 - 12 week window will depend on that, and on the length of the queue of your chosen kiltmaker.

Thats exactly how I felt. I saw a PV kilt at the last kilt night, after seeing one (of Rocky's at that) it is hard to be happy with my Acrylic from SWK. I had to wash it today, it came out UGLY and hanging it didn't help, went to store and got the lead weights mentioned in a different thread, and rinsed the kilt again, and hung the weights on, looks much better, but I want something even nicer...

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that most mills would have common tartans already in stock. The rare and unusual tartans would have to be specially woven for your kilt, but the cost would be much higher than $550.. I believe that most of the wait time is due to the volume of orders that most kitmakers ae getting now. I can't say for sure how long Rocky, Barb, Matt or Kathy take to sew a kilt, but that time is small compared to the length of time for your order to reach the top of the list.
