The beardless splash
So after 20+ years of wearing a beard, I got a wild hair today and shaved it off. I present to the rabble "The Beardless Splash!"

The only thing is, I have been married for 19 years, so this is the first time the wife has seen me without it. Her comment? "Please glue it back on!"
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Splash,
You don't look that bad, although it would have been good to see you before and after in the same post!.
I wore a beard for about 10 years, from 43 to 53 years of age.
Then it started to turn splotchy grey. I didn't like that look so I shaved it off.
I'm due to retire in 3 years so I may let it grow back then. My wife wasn't too keen on my having a beard, though.

My wife has also never seen me without a beard, and has forbidden me to shave it in the fears that she might discover she actually married an ugly man. :-) lol...
Had this one for 17 years now, minus a period of about one month about 10 years back. After a month I still didn't recognize the man in the mirror, so I grew my face back.

Ahh the classic "cop stache". Love it. I've threatened to shave my beard and keep a moustache but the threats from my wife has kept me from going through with it.

I shaved my beard when my daughter was 3 (she's 17 now) and she ran away from me screaming "Your not my Daddy" and she didn't talk to me for a week so I have kept mine be it full or goatee for the last 14 years. My wife didn't like me without either.

I've had a beard off and on since I was about 16 normally a full beard or a Vandyck, though once I did have a long handlebar mustache and at one time the beard was very long, not quite ZZ Top length but lets say early 80's ZZ Top length. I once shaved it off because we were getting professional photos and my Grandmother wanted it gone.
I well remember the uproar from XMarkers when I last shaved, as I do not want a repeat it will most likely be some time before I shave it off again.

I also have had at least a mustache, sometimes a beard. One day I shaved off the mustache that my wife had also complained about.... it was two days before she noticed... grew it back immediately LOL
That is always a good story to bring up when she says I don't do ____ (insert your normal wifely requests here)

I've had a beard since I was 22. I am now 54. Recenly the navy's regualations changed and all sea going personnel (actually posted to a ship) have to shave as we are introducing a new type of breathing apperatus for fire fighting. SO amid much complaining from my lady it has come off. I am told I look years younger as the beard had already gone gray. I think it just emphasises my jowls. Not much I can do about those at my age however, as I am not so vain as to do plastic sugery. Any way - I really connect with your questions about the whole situation. To beard or not to beard ....
I have noticed one interesting thing, however. I used to get women who would comment on how much they loved a man in a beard while others would totally comment in the negative. Nowthe nay sayers are commenting on how young I look while the beard lovers are commenting on how they think I looked better with. Seems there is no ambivalence when it comes to beards - women either hate them or love them.
