Best websites to book flights -HELP!!!
To all you seasoned world travelers, what are the best sites for booking flights? Are there any I need to avoid, or ones that go above and beyond to get you great deals?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, as I'm booking for my trip to Scotland!!!

I've found that often it's just as inexpensive to go directly to the airlines' websites versus travelocity.com, orbitz.com, etc. As much as they'd like to believe, they ain't always a bargain. With the airlines, you'll get a bit more consideration if there are screw-ups.
Departures from US to UK are pretty much limited from either Atlanta or Newark. And since it's been several years since I've departed from Atlanta, I'm not certain what's currently available there.
If flying from Newark to Edinburgh (on Continental), get to Newark with lotsa time to spare. Arrival flights are chronically late.

Shop using sites like www.Kayak.com and www.sidestep.com, which search multiple travel sites, like orbitz and travelocity, and then also check the website of the airline that has the flight you decided on.

Take a look at some of the less common carriers - Air Lingus, Iceland Air are two that spring to mind. Also, sometimes it's better to travel to Europe - KLM to Amsterdam used to be a good one and take a cheap flight back to the UK.

Also, consider flying to Dublin and catching a Ryanair flight to Edinburgh. I checked and it was about $850 ATL to DUB, then about $30 to EDB. Versus $1300 ATL to EDB.

I've done that sorta thing before on trans-Atlantic flights and it sure makes for a L O N G day. My preference is the most direct route between departure & arrival.
The more connects, the greater the chances for airline screw-ups, missed flights, luggage lost, etc.
Nonetheless, I do recognize that many people don't mind. Others have no choice - their employers buy the tkts.
