    Best whisky book?

    Michael Jackson? Jim Murray? Other?

I'd love to expand my knowledge of single malts and have something to help as a buying guide. Anyone have any experience with either of the above author's books?

I've got the Jackson book (not sure which version) and it certainly is chock full of information. However, in my experience unless I'm looking for info on a particular whisky it can be like throwing darts. i.e. - open up to a page and see what's there. That being said, there is a LOT of info in the book and if you already have a favorite or two, it can help you find others you might like.

    Good luck!

Thanks! That's the one available at my local bookstore so I may just pick it up.

I definitely have a favorite or 2 but want to branch out and increase my knowledge!

I like Whisky Classified: Choosing Single Malts by Flavour by David Wishart. It doesn't rate the whisky's, just provides details and breaks down the strength of the various flavors by category. I prefer it to Jackson's because Jackson has a bias based on his palette, everyone has a different palette as t what Malts they enjoy.

I agree but let your own palette be your guide!

I'm not familiar with the books mentioned but I have referenced the tasting notes available at whiskeyguild.com. The whiskey's are rated by three different members with notes and opinions added. A good starting point for your own research!
