    bluegrass fans, look here

Last evening (Friday 8/19) I attended a bluegrass festival at which Rhonda Vincent and the Rage were the headliners. I know a lady (a fellow baker) who is friends with Ms. Vincent and always makes cookies for her, and I asked this lady if I could make a cake for Ms. Vincent and her band, and was given the go-ahead. The cake was a single-layer strawberry pound cake, iced with vanilla buttercream and fondant, and decorated with strawberries, comme ça:

I met my baker friend (who had brought a cake of her own) at Ms. Vincent's bus, and handed over the goods. Here's a picture of yours truly (I'm the tall one) presenting the cake to Ms. Vincent.

You may notice my self-made watermelon shirt. Then again, you might not notice I'm in the picture at all.

    Watermelon shirt?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Yes, Ted. I found some red fabric with black watermelon seeds printed on it. I know what you were thinking...

Yes, I was wondering, aren't you worried that people will be thumping you to see if you're ripe? Guess if it's showing the inside of the watermelon you wouldn't have to worry about it. Although someone might bite you...

I love bluegrass, and being able to bake a cake for this lovely lady must have been terribly cool.

I REALLY like that shirt! Would it be possible to commission one? That is so my style when wearing trousers.

...and terribly frustrating. I baked it on Thursday, and nothing had gone right that day. I put the fondant on about half an hour before I went to the concert, and it was VERY thin and wrinkled a little around the sides. At least the strawberries behaved themselves!

This is one of my "work" shirts. My students like to comment on how corny my shirts are, but at least they're paying attention. PM me and we'll talk details.

For all of the avalanche of respondents this thread produced:
Rhonda Vincent and the Rage will be at the Red, White and Bluegrass festival the week of the 4th of July in Morganton, NC next year (2012). She's also going to be concertizing at the Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville, NV, this November. She's getting another one of my cakes. I'm thinking I want to wear my Carolina kilt to the gig in November.
