To Canada and all her glorious paperwork
I'm just wondering if anyone here has gone through the immigration process in Canada? Andrew and I are working on getting him up here from New Hampshire, which at times seems to be an incredibly daunting task.
So if anyone has advice to share or stories to tell, I'd love to hear them. Even if they're horror stories! I remember reading ages back about Arlen getting his papers, which was sort of what sparked this.

I started the process back in '97. Finished up around 2004.

I confess to having taken the vey short route by being born here, but my beautiful bride came here as a child with her German parents and it was only the five year process back then, I believe.

Immigrated from the U.S. in 2004, received Permanent Resident status in 2006, Canadian citizenship in 2010.
It's not a difficult process, though it can seem lengthy. Feel free to contact me by email for the gory details.
Cheers, eh!

I have a friend trying to immigrate to the USA from Canada. Maybe we can work something out... we'll give you one if you give us one. Sound fair? Let's make a deal here

Goodness, I forgot about my own thread.
BlueCow: If we could get that past immigration, I would be more than happy to do the trade!
Old Hippy and Wizard of BC: I would greatly appreciate it to be able to hear your stories. I will email you both.

At one time that was indeed the case, but since the British Isles became part of the European Community, although we Scots now have freedom to take up permanent residence in France, Germany, Spain, or any of the other EC countries, migration to the traditional "British Commonwealth" countries is nowadays much more difficult.
I've looked into the prospect of moving to Canada as almost all my relatives are already there. Canadian immigration has a points system with various criteria, including age where the points reduce to zero by the age of 55 to favour younger immigrants. As I understand the position, being over 55 there are only three possible immigration routes to Canada - 1) bring a specialist skill or trade which is in short supply in Canada; 2) be sponsored by a lone Canadian citizen who is a relative AND has no other close relatives living in Canada; or 3) find a Canadian bride .
