Christmas and tartans
OK so have you noticed that Christmas and plaids or tartans seem to go hand in hand? Alot of wrapping paper and table cloths and napkins seem to be plaid. Is their a reason for this or is it just my imagination?
Merry Christmas everyone

Royal Stewart gets used frequently around Christmas because of the red and green color scheme.

Lots of tartans are red and green? Strange convergence of Queen Victoria's interest in Highland culture and German holiday celebrations?
Cordially,

Not really, given that her beloved husband was a German. This is how the Christmas tree became part of English tradition, after he had one set up at Buckingham (or whatever) palace.

Off the top of my head, bold tartans can be hard to fit into a decorating scheme, but at Christmas, excess is accepted. You are correct, though, I do see more tartan at Christmas time.

Right, that's my point...Sorry, my post should have been more explicit- "Strange convergence of Queen Victoria's interest in [BOTH] Highland culture and German holiday celebrations?"

I heard on NPR a few months ago that many retailers were using plaids this year in their fall and winter lines, because plaids are "timeless" and "comforting". I suppose we've been conditioned to think "Christmas" when we see red and green beside each other, and many plaids and tartans feature them. Bring it on, says I!

The question is though - who made Santa red ? Was it a Cola Cola advertising campaign as urban legend states, or was it Thomas Nast, the American 19th Century political cartoonist or was it "someone else " ? Hmmmmm ?
Also, does Santa look better in red or traditional green ?
