    Cigar Smokers?

    Gentlemen and Ladies,

I've seen more than a few threads about the joys of Single Malts but was wondering about Cigars.

I smoke one or two a month casually and enjoy them quite a bit. I will never make it a daily habit as I saw what pipes did to my father. I was just looking for some recommendations for my next trip to the shop this weekend. I tend to like the darker, more full bodied cigars. In the mainstream $5-$6 range I like the Macanudo Maduros and the Onyx Reserves. My all time favorite was a Padron 1964 Anniversary that is not always easy to find and is more like $12 when I can find it. It still was very smooth and tasty. I've tried some of the mainline Padrons and was disappointed by the "chocolatey" taste to it. I've tried some of the darker Punch and C.A.O. cigars and while they were OK I wanted to get back to the Macanudos or Onyx.

I guess I'm just looking for ideas when I go this weekend. And yes, I have a very good store nearby and the owner is great about reccomendations. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

Any medium ring Arturo Fuente. I like flavored cigars, but only the good ones. If you can find Tatiana honey flavored cigars, give 'em a try. they come in several different sizes and are my current favorite smoke. If you are lucky enough to ever find them, Wolf Brothers' sweet rum crooks are one of the best cigars I've ever had, and they are really inexpensive. (Four years ago they were $2 apiece.) You do seem to have your flavors pretty much picked though. Enjoy.

I'm not allowed to smoke cigars anymore, not even on special occasions. Edict of the missus, you see. But if I did, they'd be Captain Black Sweets.

Actually Folks there is a link to "The Pub" next to the X Mark the Scot forums button on your left. The Pub was created as a supplement to X marks the Scot where people could discuss beer, wine, liquor, cocktails, and tobacco.

It is it's own forum (with it's own rules) so one does need to register there.

It may be worth your while to meander over there and check it out.

    Here's the link:

You may not like my recommendations since they tend to have a bit of a chocolate taste, but I love the Java by Drew Estates. I get their box pressed Robusto's, but many people also like their wafers (thin pressed).
Very rich unflavored cigar, but the tobacco itself has a rich chocolate/coffee hint to it. Nice creamy smoke too.

There is also one called "Dirt", I dont recall who makes it, but it has a really rich earthy taste. Almost the same hints to the smoke as a smoked dried chili does to a chili paste. Very rich, almost soil like quality, but that is very appealing.

Arturo Fuente's are always good quality smokes.
I like the CAO Brazilias, La Gloria Serie R, Indian Tabac, Punch Gran Cru, etc.

I also got some seconds from Rolando Reyes, who makes Indios Puros, and they are very good as well.

Aye, check out the Pub! There are only about 100 members right now, but more members=more discussion.

My regular selection is the La Gloria Cubana Serie R Maduro #6. It also comes in natural, as the Maduro is a hearty smoke. Also, I would recommend the Ashton Virgin Sun Grown in any size/shape. They are a fantastic smoke in all forms.

Now I will go check out the Pub...
