Dockers trying to bring back manliness
I found this article kind of interesting.
Dockers has a "man-ifesto" on their website about what a real man is and some people are upset about this.
I left the comment "Real men wear kilts"

That's funny.
I don't have anything else to say.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I was shocked to see the poll results, in which nearly 80% of the voters did not find the ad sexist.

I didn't read the whole ad, but I will point out that sexist and inane are not synonyms. On the other hand, Dockers and inane may be...

'Desperate times call for desperate measures'...I guess with revenues falling the high foreheads in the marketing department thought they had a winner here....time will tell. I've always been of the opinion that a company that makes stupid ads is probably not bright enough to make a product I'd want to buy.

Could it be that they are selling controversy, and therefore discussion, and therfore remembrance of their product? How many commercials do you see and have no idea what they're trying to sell, but you do remember the celebrity or jingle or some other part of the commercial? This looks like pretty smart marketing to me, because it makes the reader remember the product.

I'd say you got it. Us old PR guys know that there is no such thing as bad publicity, unless it was a major disaster. People remember you, talk about you, get their danders up about you, and defend you to their friends.
Doesn't make me want to rush out and buy a pair of Dockers, however.

Seems kinda absurd to me. In my opinion 'Real men' are touch, manly and capable without having to wear certain clothing or advertise the fact.
