donation to a Scottish charity
I have a friend whose Scots partner of 38 years recently passed away. He would like to donate his kilt belt, ghillie brogues and black seal skin sporran to an organization that would sell them and use the funds to promote or benefit Scots culture.
Any suggestions?

You could sell them here and give the cash where it belongs.

And there's no cost to sell here... i don't know the appropriate charity. The Cincinnati Caledonian Society is a nice non-for-profit. There's always the Dunedin High and Jr High pipe bands. They're a bunch of youngsters. Money seems to go far when you're giving it to towards education and youth.

I agree 100%, sell them here, we're a generous group and I'm sure it will help out a good cause.
Do keep us informed how you want to proceed!

Why not donate them to the Scottish Tartans Museum; Matt might be able to sell the items, and the money could go to that cause. Every Xmarker should support the STM.

Of course, but I like most, have charities that are closer to my heart.
I think selling the gear and donating the funds to a charity of the surviving partner's choosing is the sensible thing.

I do as well, Colin...My family are strong supporters of Newborns in Need, for example.
However, since the items are in this case, Highland attire, what better organization to donate them to then one devoted to the preservation of traditional Highland dress?
Just a thought.

I agree that they should be sold by the owner, and proceeds donated to charity of choice.
I would suggest if the person is local to you, which appears to be Atlanta, the funds be donated to the Grandfather Mt Highland Games. They have an endowment fund-

My friend is in Maryland. He contacted a few local games and organizations, but got no response, not even an acknowledgement of his interest in donating.
