    Extras from Dad's Christmas Gift

Since it didn't pay to start up the kiln for just one knife so I worked at knocking out a couple more with my Father-in-laws knife. Just got two of the others done so I thought post them.

There woodworking knives for marking instead of pencils. Top one is cocobola and the bottom one is kuri. They are sharpened to a single bevel.

Those are beautiful, man! I love it when people take an ordinary utilitarian object and make it into a piece of art.

Those are beautiful...I'll bet they feel good in the hand. Once you use a good striking knife, you don't want to go back to a pencil.

I would love to own one of those knives, and I don't have a use for one. I use a pencil in the rare occassion I do woodwork these days.

    That is beautiful work.

Very nice looking marking knives. Dad will certainly be proud of this gift!

Looks like I made some sculpture, again.

He opened it and after I told him what it was he said "And you think I'm going to take this down to the basement (shop)."

Jim, I'm sure he appriciated the gift, and I certainly hope that he uses it. A tool that beautiful absolutely must be used to create something of equal beauty. Nothing feels quite as nice in the hand as a well made tool that does its job well.

Stunning. But a mite cruel. I would certainly be loathe to hide such art in a workshop, but I would certainly want to put such a piece to good use. What a quandary!
