    German help

I have ran across a colloquial German word that I can not find a translation for. I was wondering if any of our German speaking members could help me out with finding out what it means. The word is “Geflster.” If it is like “kvatch” it will not directly translate but I am sure a native Geraman speaker with a good command of Americanized English can give me situations where it would be used.

Are you sure about the spelling? Google "suggested" this:

    Geflüster (das)
    n. in whispers, quietly, softly and low

Well, in English it would mean "one who gefls."

yep. checked & double checked. There was no umlute. UNLESS ..... it was contracted from the longer gefluster. The same way some of us in English will type 'sup for what's up or 'caus for because or 'lo for hello.

It was used in a context where "whisper" would make since. Maybe you hit it.

That's ok Bob, I think I got it anyway

I have since found out that the writer was jotting down words as one would expect a Berliner to be speaking them. Berliners have a tendency to "clip" their speech. I think the word was supposed to be Geflüster as another member suggested. It was used in a context where that would make since.

Hey Dirk, I'm assuming it's just Gefluester, whether it's clipped intentionally or is simply a typo or problem displaying the Umlaut. A little context might help and I'm not a native-speaker but ich versteh auch nicht Bahnhof...

Context would help. I think I know what it is but without context I can't be sure.
