Getting Used to New Computer Etc.
My computer crashed Friday of last week, and I had to replace everything. Thanks to Ali sharing her computer crash experience, I had multiple backups of all my information. I wasn't even keeping it on the hard drive.
So now I have Windows 7 etc, and slowly getting used to the differences from XP. It was a long week away from the computer, and XMTS. I did get out my kilt and put it on for a few minutes, in thinking about XMTS, then brushed it down real well. It's been about a year...
feel out of sync with everything now, especially after trying to keep up to date with the situation in Japan mainly through radio news.

Ah, computers. Completely unreliable so we rely on them for everything. <sigh> Glad you managed through the crash.

Welcome back!
Glad you had your stuff backed up. That's the real bad side to a crash...well, other than shelling out the greenbacks for the new one.
If you decide you don't like Windows 7 you might give Ubuntu a try. I've been Microsoft free since 2000 and every computer I've had has been 100% reliable. Plus it's free!
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

Thanks. It just takes a little time to get used to things.
The RAM went bad on the other computer I think.

Pure proof that backing up ones data saves the proverbial bacon!
I upgraded the operating system on my computer in January. Bugbear, you are so right that it takes awhile to get used to these sorts of things.
Glad to know that you re-donned your kilt, if only briefly.

Windows 7
Bugbear: I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 (64-bit) a few months ago. No problems so far. It's noticeably more responsive than either Vista or XP. Just stay away from Windows Live - really strange! Sometimes I think MS is trying to get folks off of it onto something else, like Outlook.
I still run XP on my laptop, but will probably upgrade the hardware before the OS. Good luck with acclimating. I wonder if MS has an official tartan? ;-)
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Lewis hose too.
I was kind of going through my accessories, like the sporrans and so on; thinking about my times on XMTS. So just decided to put on the kilt for a while.
I did get a set of restore disks for this new computer, and a renewable service plan for things that go wrong.
There's a bunch I could have lost if I didn't back it up; a bunch of things I've written and a ton of information, so I plan on continuing to keep several back ups of everything.
I do have a couple of family members over in Tokyo, and they are all right for now. As far as I know their extended families are all right too. I kept thinking about CDNSushi, but I couldn't check to see if he had posted.

Ubuntu will not prevent a hardware crash and backing up is best in all situations.
You're a smart guy Bugbear.
