grandson
On Friday morning, at about 10am South African time, my daughter-in-law gave birth to a boy weighing 3,3kg.
She and my son have named him Ethan. He is my son’s first child, and his wife’s second. So the baby has a teenaged sister who can’t wait to babysit him!
My daughter also is pregnant (her first child), and is due in October. She does not want to know the baby’s sex in advance.
I made inquiries of my tartan friend in Cape Town about a baby kilt, but she no longer makes them. However she said she would send me the material gratis, even though I had offered to pay for it.
So brace yourselves for a picture of a wee lad wearing Springbok Rugby tartan.
Regards,
Mike

The green, gold and white of the Springbok team colors are a winning combination for you and wee Ethan. Since there is no "pink or blue" confirmed with your next grandchild (sex withheld due to your daughter's request) Springbok could win again in October as well. Congratulations!

Thanks, guys.
I just hope my daughter-in-law doesn’t throw a fit about the kilt!
And I think I will go softly on my daughter. She has been quite rude about my kilts.

The best is yet to come, Mike! You have an amazing journey ahead of you, there is nothing like a grandchild to remind us of the awesome gift that a child is for each of us. Unconditional love starts with a newborn and it is our responsibility to nurture that love for the rest of our lives.
You have been truly blessed, first with a granddaughter (of the heart) and now with a grandson. You escaped the diapers & teething etc with your granddaughter, but your grandson will make up for that! You will be surprised at how special both of these grandchildren will become as they grow up - both very different, both very unique. We, as grandparents, need to make sure that they are loved equally loved for themselves, so that they reach their full potential. You and your family have a wonderful future ahead of you!
Congratulations to all, Grandpa!

That was an insightful comment, Stitchwiz. Quite early in his marriage my son ran into heavy weather with his stepdaughter, and my wife pointed out to him: “This isn't parenting 101, it’s parenting 401.” Very apt. He’s learnt a lot these past five years.
Thanks for your good wishes.
