Gustav
Folks,
Please be sure to keep the folks on the Gulf Coast in your thoughts as we wait to see how bad Gustav was.
I'm hoping to have a first-hand report from the La. Scottish community soon.
My wife's cousin still lives in Baton Rouge, and her family has been in La. since the 1700s, so even though we're not directly affected, the television was on during our Labor Day gathering so we could see the latest.
The missus rode Andrew out back in '92, so whenever there's a hurricane, I know it takes her back to Ft. Lauderdale.

And keep the National Guard in mind. Natural disasters take us away from our families, jobs, and classes. It's a calculated sacrifice. Let's hope for the best yet stay prepared.

From this evening's newscast, it seems that the levees in N.O. are holding fast. Good. However, a 15' storm surge isn't good for the rest of the Gulf Coast. Prayers are always in order for something of this sort. What to me is disconcerting, is that there are two more storms lined up.

Being in North Central LA, I've been spared the brunt of the storm. It has been windy and raining since 7ish last night and hasn't let off yet.
My sister in law lives in Denham Springs (right out side Baton Rouge) and they have trees & power lines down all around her.
No word yet from my South LA Klingons. One of my Miss. Klingons lives in Biloxi and rode out Katrina & Gustov...the storms fear no man, but they do KLINGONS!!! He has survived both.

My 100 y.o. grandmother is in a home in New Iberia. Her facility was supposed to be evacuated, but at the last minute management decided to stay put. My parents rode Gustav out with her. They made it through the storm fine. My dad will go out to their house today to see how it fared.
