Help me find Thompson in Australia
It's a long shot I know, but would anyone here know how to find a lost acquaintance in Australia? More info available if you can help.
Thanks
David

Shouldnt be that hard, there are only approx 22 million of them...
;)
Might have a white pages and or telephone directory service for a start...

Something like this site although you're going to have to wade through a lot of Thompsons, as Mr. Kiwi implies!

OK, done that, specifically for those who have done it,
from the US, dial 011 for international access, dial 61 for Australia, then dial the number listed. For the person I am trying to reach, I get no connection on one number and wrong number on the other.
So again, if we have members in NSW who might help me find an email address or verify the correct phone, I would appreciate it

To clarify, this wasn't a random search for the name, but looking to reconnect with friends from 30 years ago. And I do appreciate your thoughts.

Some people are harder to find than others, the ones who leave fewer breadcrumbs. Whenever I try to stalk^h^h^h^h reconnect with someone, I often use search queries with some bit of biographical data that I happen to know. Sometimes this turns up a news article or bio from whatever it is that they happen to be doing today. Using that new bit of information, it's a pretty easy jump to making contact through someone who knows someone who knows the targ^h^h^h person I'm trying to reach, through an organization, event organizer, or what have you. Other times, it could take maybe one more query to connect that new information to something else. Some municipalities have searchable property records, which can be very helpful in some circumstances.
Do you have also a last known address? Send a letter to the current occupants and appeal for help in a way that will appeal to their charitable nature (and not their suspicious one).
Depending on how important the connection is, you might consider paying for and posting a "I knew Thompson when... Please let him know I am thinking about him and would love to hear from him again if you know him." in local or regional papers, or in the Australian version of Craigslist.
Good luck with the search,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Excellent suggestions from Rex. Bob and I reconnected after 34 years when he sent an e-mail to the sports car club where we'd originally met -- fortunately it turned into a mutual stalk LOL
