High school teachers: looking for a small favor!

Hey. I know we have a few members here who are involved in education and teaching. I'm just looking for a small favour.

Would anyone be willing to e-mail me some photos of your school? More specifically, hallways and classrooms, but also the school itself and the school grounds would be helpful. I don't need people to be in the pictures.

I would like to teach a cultural lesson to my high school kids here in Japan, and the schools look very different and it's often difficult to talk about it without actually showing them differences.

These photos will not be published, distributed, sold, put on Facebook, or anything like that. They would be shown to Japanese staff and students at my place of work for illustrative purposes only.

    Thanks in advance,

    JD

    How different ?

I'm not a teacher JD, but have friends who are teachers and administrators. What are the differences that you would like to compare? There are a number of different designs here in California depending on age and location. I'm assuming that, due to real estate and population density, the sprawling single story schools with large adjoining playing fields are not seen there? Schools here in the States are public property so we typically have full access around them during off hours. It would be easy enough to get lots of outside photos and even some photos through windows if that would be helpful. Let me know what would be most helpful and I'll see what I can get.

    Regards,
    Brooke

Style, architecture, overall appearance, cleanliness (or lack thereof), decor inside classrooms, types of desks and chairs used, color schemes... Just to name a few. I know it sounds a bit inane, but these are some interesting differences when you start comparing them.

My wife is a primary school teacher so I could probably get her to dig out some primary school photos if that would help or did you want high (secondary?) school photos specifically?

I'll check with my Dad. He teaches middle school at the moment... he might have some pictures of the high school he was at two years ago, too. I'll see if my mom will send me a photo of the mural she painted at the high school. The high school's mascot is "the Rebels" as in the Jacobite Rebellion (odd for the South to be those rebels instead of the Confeds). And, the school was named after a member of the MacLeods.... So, she painted a piece of a man wearing the Loud MacLeod (as best as she could) with my father for the face.

I need to get that photo to post here anyway. Mom and I think this may be the only way to get Dad into a kilt, unfortunately.

    Edit: Mom works fast....

I'm not in education, but I can get you some outside pics from around here. I'll see about getting both old and new. The old Toledo Public Schools buildings have some pretty impressive architecture.

Old is good too. But if you're shooting old, it would be very helpful to know just HOW old. Japanese definitions of the age of buildings is a bit different than in the west.
