Leaning Tower of Cacti
* Picture removed. *
Early this morning, those two giant cacti fell over. It has rained so much that the ground was two soft to support them. That's ok though, it is the main way they make new cacti.
I have chopped them into manageable branches; they are very heavy and lightly spined. Over the next day or so, I will cut them into individual pads and make new cacti from those. The base stumps with a few branch-like pads are still in the ground, but I think I will dig those up and put something else, not so tall, in their place.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

Yes, that is my daywear ensemble.
But don't worry, I wasn't wearing it while working on the cacti.

Hi Ted,
I think you've got a great 'look' there. Just wondering - what tartan is that? I am starting to become a real fan of the 'earth tones'.
Regards

I watched the old 50's film "The Monolith Monsters" last night and your description of how the cactus reproduce echoes the Monolith's way of spreading! Watch it they don't come crashing through the house!
On a more serious note I find cacti to be fascinating plants and unlike others, when the plant falls down it is a beginning not an ending.
It would be interesting next spring for you to take a picture in the same place in the same outfit and show how they have come along.
Cheers

That kilt is from Stilwater, and it is a half sett of the Lamont tartan in weathered colors.

If the camera were turned the opposit direction, I have a hedge row of these along my property line.
Over the last eight or so years I have made hundreds and hundreds of them from cuttings. They all came from one cactus I bought back then.

I do believe that is your corduroy jacket, and vest. Looks great!
