    London Mar. 31 - Apr. 10

I am planing on a London visit - Mar. 31 - Apr. 10. So, I am requesting any recommendations on fairly reasonable accommodation. On the "tube" and quite central would be great. Planning on catching up on museum, galleries and historical sites. A meet-up would also be nice.

In terms of value priced accommodation, I like the County Hotel on Upper Woburn Place. It is almost across the street from Euston and a few minutes walk to Kings Cross. It is also close by Russell Square. If you want something fancier, I am the wrong person although I have had a bit more upscale accommodation at reasonable prices in Kensington.

We stayed at the Kennsington thistle hotel last year. Bus stop right outside. Tubes up the street. We did all the tourist stuff. Tower of London and River cruise down past the London eye getting off near Parlament. Then a quick visit to Westminster. Also an afternoon at the museum and Churchills underground offices near the War Museum.

A couple of years ago we stayed at the Rookery, which is an inn made out of a couple of old houses. It is in the financial district, not to far from the Faringdon tube stop. It was also a short walk to a few restaurants, some museums and St. Paul's Cathedral. I quite enjoyed the place, it was literary themed and the staff was very helpful with one issue that came up towards the end of our stay. If you like small inns instead of big hotels, I would recommend it.

Oh my gosh! I just saw a single room was 100 quid...maybe not such a good bet anymore. I had been staying at this hotel for years as it made a good stopover enroute to Newcastle after a transatlantic flight. I wish I could tell you what I first paid, but I am pretty sure 3 years ago it was about 60 quid.

I'm not sure if this is during the university vacation, but the London School of Economics has some acceptable accommodation (not if you want nice bathrobes and scented stuff and cutesy cushions and pillows) but clean rooms and an edible breakfast in the centre of town for about £35 per night.

Just did a Google search on this looks like an excellent suggestion. I am hoping to be in London later this year, and I will certainly be looking into this.

    Thanks John
