Misnomer - Butterfly House nr Sheffield

Somewhat reluctantly, I accompanied my grandson and daughter to Butterfly House on bank holiday Monday and was very pleasantly surprised. Yes it does have a butterfly house, but a lot more besides and you are encouraged to get up close and personal with most of the animals. Definitely recommended to anyone visiting the area with or without kids.

Some butterflies seem quite attached to humans.

so are some locusts - sorry - scorpions. The keeper had great difficulty getting this one off my daughter, it seemed to have taken a fancy to her.

This bearded dragon was also quite happy to walk on you:

    Some birds were just inquisitive:

while others liked to show off:

These ones ruffled my hair, or would do if I had any, as they flew past:

You could even, for an extra fee, arrange a supervised visit into the meerkat enclosure if you felt the urge:

There were many others, too, but I was the only kilted animal.

Wonderful photos of some beautiful creatures (with the possible exception of that scorpion-looking thing of nightmares!)

Amazing photos. I thought the locust was a scorpion! - I wouldn't have let it walk on my hand.

You are right it was, my mistake - too late at night. I'll correct it. Apparently the bigger they are especially the pincers, the less dangerous the sting. This one had large pincers so the sting is no worse than a bee sting.
