    My weekend project

Granted I am not kilted, perhaps I need to buy a utility-kilt. Last weekend and this weekend I ended up tearing out some old shelves in the garage and installing two new shelving units. The old shelves were sagging so bad I do not think a mouse could have crossed safely. As you can see these are very strong and secure shelves.

It was a simple but fun project, because I was able to use my nail gun, Skill saw and improve the functionality of the garage and gain much needed storage space, and I am sure the entire project was less expensive than if I were to try to use those fancy aluminum or steel shelving kits.

Here I am nailing the last of the boards down.

The finished project, now I just have to move my boxes from the basement to the garage.

Nice project, looks good. And, they way you've done it, it looks like it would be easy to add doors later if needed/desired.

I've always found those fancy shelving kits don't hold up as well as good ol' wood.

Now those are SHELVES! Yes, you need a work kilt. The second photo reveals you have obvious experience with trigger control.

Now those are some man sized shelves. Good on ya.

Nice to see the safe trigger handling, you either are accustomed to firearms, or have used a nail gun quite a bit.

I just read the post about the Utili-kilt being on a show in the DIY network on 05 June at 2100 eastern. Think I may need to get one too for shop days.

    Nice Shelving Unit.
I do a lot of work using cases of 8-1/2 x 11 plain paper. Printouts for different organizations and whatnot. I simply used framing timber to construct a rack that is the depth of the long side of these cartons, and the verticals spaced three cartons wide. horizontal front & rear bar with rails spaced just under the carton width in between. Came out looking like a miniature pallet rack, only made of timber instead of steel. I have set this up along one wall of my basement. The front bar allows me to label what box belongs where in the system. I printed in horizontal mode on sheets of paper the contents of the box, then pasted it on the end of the carton..... Colour coded.. Green for finance records. blue for magazines that we wish to keep for future use, red is for reference books that do not fit in the library. Brown is spare dishware, and serving utensils. Orange is out of season clothes. Yellow is the service manuals for the appliances, and electronic toys. Now when the spouse wants me to retrieve something it is real easy.

    Very nicely done!
Those are some good, solid looking shelves.
Maybe a nice denim union kilt or an Rkilt would match them!
